Built Project Financials was developed to modernize the commercial real estate construction finance process, serving as a critical connection point between property owners/developers and their lenders and general contractors. The product streamlines the complex workflows of budget management, capital requests, and invoice processing — traditionally managed through disconnected spreadsheets and email chains. As the Senior Product Designer, I led the design of key features that helped transform a manual, error-prone process into an efficient digital workflow that accelerates access to funding and reduces administrative overhead.

The project overview serves as the command center for financial operations, providing at-a-glance visibility into budget status, outstanding draws, and pending invoices. This consolidated view helps owners and developers track their project's financial health and quickly identify areas requiring attention.

Budget Management

Real-time budget tracking and change order management.

The budget management interface enables teams to track funds at both the contract and project/deal level. Users can monitor original budgets, approved change orders, and current commitments — providing the transparency needed to keep projects on schedule and within budget constraints.

Draw Management

Streamlined capital request process reducing draw times by 50%.

The draw management feature revolutionizes how teams request and receive funds from lenders. By consolidating all required documentation and automating much of the submission process, we reduced the average draw processing time from 53 to 24 days, significantly improving project cash flow.

Process
Our approach began with extensive research into the pain points of construction finance workflows, including interviews with property developers, general contractors, and lenders. We identified that the existing process was heavily manual, prone to errors, and resulted in significant delays in funding. Through iterative design and close collaboration with our development partners, we created a solution that digitized these workflows while maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Regular usability testing with SMEs helped refine the interface and ensure it met the complex needs of our users.
Results
Built Project Financials has transformed how commercial real estate projects manage their finances, with over $200 million in construction funds processed through the platform. The product has demonstrated a 10x revenue potential and achieved significant efficiency gains, including a 50% reduction in draw processing times. Most importantly, it has established Built as a leader in construction finance technology, creating a digital foundation that connects all stakeholders in the construction finance process.
